With the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the Supreme Court will doubtless dominate many headlines in the weeks ahead. Meanwhile, the Court itself continues its business, with oral arguments scheduled to begin, virtually, on October 5. What cases are looming? How should we expect the Court to proceed, with only eight members (for now)? What might the confirmation process look like?

To explore these questions, and more, MI hosted an extra September YLC event on September 30. The Manhattan Institute’s own James R. Copland moderated a panel discussion examining the Supreme Court’s consequential upcoming cases, as well as the confirmation process. Copland was joined by three distinguished panelists uniquely positioned to discuss these issues:

Paul D. Clement, Partner, Kirkland & Ellis; former Solicitor General of the United States; has argued more than 100 cases before the Supreme Court;

Jonathan H. Adler, Johan Verheij Memorial Professor of Law & Director, Coleman P. Burke Center for Environmental Law, Case Western University School of Law; author, Marijuana Federalism, Uncle Sam & Mary Jane;

Ilya Shapiro, Director, Robert A. Levy Center for Constitutional Studies, Cato Institute; Publisher, Cato Supreme Court Review; author, Supreme Disorder: Judicial Nominations and the Politics of American’s Highest Court;

James Copland (moderator), Senior Fellow and Director of Legal Policy, Manhattan Institute; author, The Unelected: How an Unaccountable Elite is Governing America.
