Thomas J. Tierney Chairman and Founder, The Bridgespan Group

Introduction: Howard Husock, Vice President, Public Policy Research, Director Social Entrepreneurship Initiative, Manhattan Institute

Americans donate more than $300 billion annually to charitable causes and nonprofit organizations. Are they getting their money's worth? Tom Tierney is among the best people in the country to answer that question. Former CEO of Bain and Co., and founder and chairman of the Bridgespan Group, the nation's top group of strategic consultants to nonprofits and foundations, he has written about effective philanthropy and nonprofit management in the Harvard Business Review, the Stanford Social Innovation Review, and Philanthropy, where he wrote of his hope that philanthropy might “achieve better results with the same or fewer resources by clearly defining goals, soliciting input from the field and developing comprehensive strategies around giving.”
