
NYS Criminal Justice ‘Reforms’ Hurt Columbia County Criminals — as Well as Victims
In bucolic Columbia County, like jurisdictions across New York, recent statewide "reform" legislation has hurt not just the victims of crime, but criminal defendants, as well. The combined impact of NYS bail and discovery laws harms offenders by limiting their ability to make advantageous plea agreements. And, tragically, defendants are much less likely to accept needed drug treatment or to be assigned supervised time to get sober.
