About the Author

Regina E. Herzlinger is the Nancy R. McPherson Professor of Business Administration at the Harvard Business School.  She is a prolific writer on the topic of health care. Her 2002 article on consumer-drive health care in the Harvard Business Review became an Amazon ebook best-seller. In her pervious book, Market Driven Health Care, Professor Herzlinger predicted the problems that managed care plans and vertically integrated health care systems subsequently encountered and introduced the concepts of “health care focused factories” and “consumer-driven health care” to a wider audience. The book won the James Hamilton Book of the Year Award from the American College of Healthcare Executives.  In 2003, she was elected one of health care’s 100 most important people and awarded the HFMA’s Board of Directors award.
