Mitchell Silber

Mitchell D. Silber is a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute and chief executive officer of the Community Security Initiative (CSI), the New York–based security and intelligence organization that detects and disrupts threats before they reach Jewish communities at the local, national, and global levels. Previously, he served as director of intelligence analysis at the NYPD (2005–12), where he ran the intelligence analysis unit, served as a principal advisor on counterterrorism strategy, and led efforts to assess emerging threats and build critical intelligence capabilities in the post-9/11 era.

 

Silber has briefed senior officials at all levels of the U.S. national security community, including the White House, the National Security Council, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the National Counterterrorism Center. He has testified before the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives on matters related to terrorism and homeland security. He is coauthor of the NYPD report Radicalization in the West: The Homegrown Threat (2007), which shed light on domestic radicalization pathways. He is also the author of The Al Qaeda Factor: Plots Against the West (2012).

 

Silber began his career in the private sector, spending nine years in corporate finance, including as a partner at the Carson Group and as a principal at Evolution Capital, LLC, a boutique investment bank. He holds a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.A. in international relations from Columbia University.
