Speakers

Michael Barone Senior Political Analyst, Washington Examiner

Michael Barone, a Senior Political Analyst at the Washington Examiner and the author of Shaping Our Nation: How Surges of Migration Transformed America and Its Politics spoke at the October 2nd Young Leaders Circle. Barone is a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute in D.C. and a regular commentator on FOX News as well as the principal author of the National Journal’s Almanac of American Politics and the author of several books, including: Our First Revolution: The Remarkable British Upheaval that Inspired America's Founding Fathers and The New Americans: How the Melting Pot Can Work Again.

Barone’s book, Shaping Our Nation: How Surges of Migration Transformed America and Its Politics, journeys through America’s migrant past, examining how spikes of immigration—from influxes of the Scots-Irish in the 18th century to the Hispanics over the last 40 years—have shaped American politics. Barone’s lecture explained how we can bridge our differences as a nation today by understanding divisions in the context of these migrations.
