On September 12th, the Young Leaders Circle welcomed Harvey Pitt, former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and Paul Atkins, former SEC commissioner, who discussed shareholder activism and other issues concerning corporate governance. Center for Legal Policy director James Copland and founder of the Center's Proxy Monitor project, moderated the discussion. The Institute's Proxy Monitor project is an online database that tracks shareholder proposals for Fortune 200 companies. For the past two years, the Institute has focused on trends in corporate governance and shareholder activism, highlighting proxy proposals that seek to advance policy goals unrelated to corporate financial performance.
