The Battery Bus Bungle
Battery-powered electric buses are having a moment in the spotlight. New York’s MTA announced that they would be buying 60 battery buses this year, on top of the 25 they already operate—and their longer-range capital plans include buying at least 500 before 2025.
Many other public transit agencies have moved toward electrifying their fleets—especially in California, where a state mandate requires all agencies to have fully zero-emissions bus fleets by 2040.
The White House infrastructure proposal allots $7.5 billion for electric school buses and public buses.
