Robert VerBruggen Joins Manhattan Institute as Fellow

NEW YORK, NY — The Manhattan Institute (MI) is pleased to announce that Robert VerBruggen has joined the Institute as a fellow.

A long-time policy writer and former deputy managing editor of National Review, VerBruggen writes on a wide array of issues including economic policy, public finance, health care, education, family policy, cancel culture, and public safety. His work at MI will be equally varied—pursuing policy research, writing commentary for City Journal, and contributing to special projects and initiatives in the president’s office.

His inaugural City Journal essay focuses on how the supreme court can settle the confusion over how police tactics preceding an officer-involved shooting may affect constitutional rights.

“Robert has tremendous range as a policy journalist and an exceptionally strong command of the social science literature that is relevant to his work,” said Brandon Fuller, Vice President of Research & Publications at the Manhattan Institute. “I look forward to reading him regularly in City Journal and supporting his policy research as a Manhattan Institute fellow. We are thrilled to have him on the team.”

"I've been a fan of the Manhattan Institute since I first became interested in public policy years ago, and I'm thrilled to have the chance to work with such an impressive group of scholars and writers. From policing to the federal budget, MI's signature issues have never been more important, and I feel fortunate to join an organization that leaves its mark on these debates every time they arise," said VerBruggen.

VerBruggen started at the Institute on Monday, June 28.
