Beth Akers joins Manhattan Institute as Senior Fellow in Education

Education Higher Ed

Research will focus on the challenges facing higher education in U.S.

The Manhattan Institute is pleased to welcome Beth Akers as a senior fellow focusing on higher education. Akers will be conducting research in areas such as student loans, college affordability, income-sharing agreements, and university accreditation.

Before joining MI, Akers was a fellow in the Brookings Institution’s Center on Children and Families and a staff economist with the President’s Council of Economic Advisors, where she focused on federal student lending policies.

“Beth’s work on education has been both numbers-driven and committed to concrete policy solutions,” said Manhattan Institute President Larry Mone. “We at the Manhattan Institute welcome her and look forward to advancing the conversation on higher education.”

Akers is co-author of the newly released book Game of Loans: The Rhetoric and Reality of Student Debt, which takes a sober look at the costs and benefits of a college education today. She has a B.S. in Mathematics and Economics from SUNY Albany and a Ph.D. in Economics from Columbia University.
